Ola Electric is currently facing an ARAI investigation after concerns were raised about discrepancies in its sales figures and official vehicle registration data. The Ministry of Heavy Industries has directed the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.

What’s the Issue? 🤔

Ola Electric reported sales of approximately 25,000 units in February 2025. However, data from the Vahan Portal, which records vehicle registrations, shows only 8,600 registrations for the same period. This significant gap has raised concerns about whether Ola’s reported numbers match actual sales.

Government Action & Investigation 🔍

The ARAI probe will focus on:

✔️ Understanding the reason behind the mismatch in sales and registration figures.

✔️ Checking if any legal or regulatory violations have occurred.

✔️ Investigating cases of scooters being sold without valid trade certificates.

✔️ Verifying the presence of service centres in all cities where Ola operates.

The Ministry has asked ARAI to submit a detailed report based on its findings.

State Authorities Also Taking Action 🚦

Various state transport authorities have also launched inspections:

📍 Maharashtra: RTO officials inspected Ola Electric outlets in Mumbai & Pune and seized 36 scooters that reportedly lacked proper documentation.

📍 Punjab: Several Ola Electric showrooms have been shut down due to non-compliance.

📍 Madhya Pradesh (Jabalpur): Notices have been issued for alleged sales of unregistered vehicles without trade certifications.

Ola’s Response & What’s Next? 🔜

Ola Electric has not yet issued a formal statement regarding the investigation. The outcome of this probe could have a major impact on the EV industry, affecting sales practices, regulatory compliance, and consumer trust.
